The history of The Orchards began in 1922 when Joseph Skinner commissioned Scotsman Donald J. Ross to design the course. The course was originally just nine holes – the final nine was added under the architect’s deliberate guidance in 1927. In 1941, the course was donated to Mount Holyoke College, where it has remained hidden away for golfers to enjoy.
Today, more than 90 years later, The Orchards Golf Club is preserved in time – a testament to the brilliance of Donald J. Ross. The Orchards is rated one of the top ten college courses in the country. Encore Leisure Group acquired the management of the Orchards to oversee all operations. ELG also owns or manages 17 golf courses nationwide.
